Gandhari is an upcoming horror Tamil movie directed by R Kannan and Hansika Motwani is the lead cast.
Hansika plays dual roles in Kannan’s upcoming film Gandhari, a girl from a tribal community and someone who works with the Aranilaya Thurai in the state. The director has released a movie poster featuring the actress in her tribal girl role.
Kannan explains the effort that went into designing the character’s appearance and personality as follows: “The character appears in the 1940s period portion, and we based her on the Narikurava community. I and Dhananjayan, who wrote the screenplay, spent six months conducting research to enhance the story. Pradeepa, a costume designer, interacted with members of the community, some of whom have settled near Yercaud, to comprehend their way of life and attire. She sourced costumes and accessories based on photographic references. The transformation would take Hansika five hours, he reveals. “The makeup alone took five hours because we had to make her look like a forest-dwelling individual. Three additional hours were required to remove the makeup. On the days we filmed flashback scenes, we were unable to film anything else. Twenty days out of a total of thirty-five were devoted to period scenes, says the director, adding, “Gandhari is another name for Amman and a major character in the Mahabharata. These aspects are also addressed in the script.
The film also features Shirish in a leading role. “Stunt Silva has choreographed some interesting action sequences for both Hansika and Shirish. We will resume filming in January and should complete the film shortly,” he concludes.
